Hey, I’m Tim Wong RMT
I’m a Registered Massage Therapist, Movement Coach, and Personal Trainer.
I’ve been treating and resolving the injuries, aches and pains of Toronto’s athletic community for the last 10 years.

The costly and time-wasting treatments
The lack of results and loss of hope
I wanted to throw in the towel and stop my goals of competing at a high level in Weightlifting and Soccer

Maybe you can relate?

4 Types of Massage Therapy Treatments that we utilize for tendonitis at the Holistic Move

Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex (PDTR)

PDTR is a specialized technique that focuses on stimulating specific proprioceptive receptors to restore proper proprioception and re-optimize muscle function. By activating deep tendon reflexes, this technique helps re-establish the communication between the nervous system and muscles, promoting stability, reducing pain, and aiding in the recovery of typical overuse injuries from tendonitis. Click here to learn more about PDTR.

Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT)

NKT is a cutting-edge technique that identifies and corrects faulty movement patterns by addressing muscle imbalances and dysfunctional movement compensations. By using manual muscle testing and precise corrective exercises, NKT aims to reprogram the neuromuscular system, promoting pain relief, improved stability, and enhanced athletic performance for individuals with tendonitis.

Active Release Technique (ART)

My Active Release Technique (ART) is a dynamic and hands-on approach that combines movement and precise pressure to treat tendonitis. By targeting adhesions and scar tissue, ART breaks down barriers to healing, improves range of motion, and accelerates recovery.

Sports Massage Therapy

Our specialized sports massage therapy combines various techniques, including deep tissue massage and Swedish massage, to target muscle imbalances, reduce tension, and enhance recovery. By addressing the specific needs of athletes and active individuals, this comprehensive approach promotes optimal healing, restores functionality, and boosts your tendon’s resilience. Frequently Asked Questions

As an RMT, I will continue to offer high-quality therapeutic massage therapy treatments. In addition, with my additional education and training in functional neurology, I can offer patients an integrative approach that often has many longer-lasting benefits. Using a functional neurology-based therapy like P-DTR, we identify the movements that cause your symptoms, perform a specific treatment, retest the same movement after treatment, then provide you with the appropriate exercises for “homework” to solidify our results. Rest assured, I am also Certified and Licensed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Massage therapy for tendonitis offers multiple benefits. It helps increase blood circulation to the affected area, promoting healing and reducing inflammation. Massage techniques like P-DTR and Active Release Techniques target stiff connective tissue and tight muscles associated with tendonitis, providing pain relief and improving range of motion. Additionally, massage can help break down scar tissue and adhesions, accelerating the recovery process.

Massage therapy for tendonitis should not cause excessive pain. While some discomfort may be experienced during deep tissue work or when addressing trigger points, it is important to communicate with your therapist about your comfort level. They can adjust the pressure and techniques accordingly to ensure a beneficial and comfortable session.

The number of sessions required to treat tendonitis can vary depending on the severity of the condition and individual response to treatment. Typically, a series of sessions is recommended to achieve optimal results. Your therapist will assess your condition, develop a personalized treatment plan, and provide guidance on the frequency and duration of sessions to address your specific needs.

Massage therapy can play a role in preventing tendonitis recurrence. By addressing muscle imbalances, improving flexibility, and promoting proper biomechanics, massage therapy helps optimize muscle function and reduce the risk of repetitive strain on tendons. Your therapist may also provide self-care techniques and exercises to support your ongoing prevention efforts.

Yes, there are several self-care measures you can take to enhance the effectiveness of massage therapy for tendonitis. These may include applying ice or heat to the affected area, performing prescribed stretching and strengthening exercises, using supportive braces or wraps, and modifying activities that aggravate the condition. Your therapist will provide specific recommendations based on your individual needs.

Massage therapy can often be complemented by other treatments for tendonitis such as physiotherapy, chiropractic and acupuncture. It is essential to communicate with your healthcare provider and inform your massage therapist about any other treatments or therapies you are undergoing. This allows them to coordinate efforts, ensure compatibility, and provide you with the most comprehensive care possible.

Remember, every individual and tendonitis case is unique. It is important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional or your massage therapist to receive personalized rehabilitation advice and guidance regarding your specific condition and treatment plan.

NKT and P-DTR are two advanced treatments that focus on locating the root cause of your ankle sprain and correcting the functional imbalances within the body. Using precise manual muscle tests, an experienced therapist can quickly find the root of many dysfunctions that is causing your ankle pain or discomfort and treating it. I work with people from all walks of life! From the weekend warrior to the seasoned athlete, I will always find the most effective way for everyone to find success in meeting their goals.

It is generally recommended to avoid exercise or sports activities that put stress on the injured tendon during the initial stages of healing. Engaging in physical activity too soon may delay the healing process or lead to further injury. Gradual re-introduction of activities should be done under medical supervision.

The RICE method is a commonly recommended approach for initial management of tendonitis. It involves resting the affected tendon, applying ice to reduce swelling and pain, using compression (with a bandage or brace) to provide support, and elevating the tendon above heart level to reduce inflammation. In addition to these, manual therapy (RMT) has been shown to be beneficial during the recovery process.
