Hey, I’m Tim Wong

Hey, I’m Tim Wong RMT
I’m a Registered Massage Therapist, Movement Coach, and Personal Trainer.
I’ve been treating and resolving the injuries, aches and pains of Toronto’s athletic community for the last 10 years.
I’ve helped hundreds of Torontonians aim towards life-time personal bests, dominate at their sport, without sacrificing their long term health and wellness.
But it wasn’t always like that…
I’ve been through my share of injuries and went to many therapists experiencing relief but without receiving any longer lasting solutions.
I went through it all:
The trying everything I could find on the internet and social media
The costly and time-wasting treatments
The lack of results and loss of hope
I wanted to throw in the towel and stop my goals of competing at a high level in Weightlifting and Soccer

Maybe you can relate?

Let me help you fast track your road to recovery.
I use some of the best Massage Therapy techniques that I've learned over my life

4 Types of Massage Therapy Treatments that we utilize for meniscus tear at the Holistic Move

Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex (PDTR)

PDTR is a specialized technique that focuses on stimulating specific proprioceptive receptors to restore proper proprioception and re-optimize muscle function. By activating deep tendon reflexes, this technique helps re-establish the communication between the nervous system and muscles, promoting stability, reducing pain, and aiding in the recovery of typical overuse injuries for meniscus tear. Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT)

NKT is a cutting-edge technique that identifies and corrects faulty movement patterns by addressing muscle imbalances and dysfunctional movement compensations. By using manual muscle testing and precise corrective exercises, NKT aims to reprogram the neuromuscular system, promoting pain relief, improved stability, and enhanced athletic performance for individuals with meniscus tear.

Active Release Technique (ART)

My Active Release Technique (ART) is a dynamic and hands-on approach that combines movement and precise pressure to treat meniscus tear. By targeting adhesions and scar tissue, ART breaks down barriers to healing, improves range of motion, and accelerates recovery.

As an RMT, I will continue to offer high-quality therapeutic massage therapy treatments. In addition, with my additional education and training in functional neurology, I can offer patients an integrative approach that often has many longer-lasting benefits. Using a functional neurology-based therapy like P-DTR, we identify the movements that cause your symptoms, perform a specific treatment, retest the same movement after treatment, then provide you with the appropriate exercises for “homework” to solidify our results. Rest assured, I am also Certified and Licensed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.

Massage therapy can be beneficial for various types of meniscus tears, but the specific treatment approach will depend on the severity and nature of your injury. An experienced therapist will assess your condition and tailor the treatment accordingly, ensuring it aligns with your specific needs and promotes optimal healing.

Massage therapy for meniscus tear offers multiple benefits. It helps increase blood circulation to the affected area, promoting healing and reducing inflammation. Massage techniques like P-DTR and Active Release Techniques target stiff connective tissue and tight muscles associated with meniscus injuries, providing pain relief and improving range of motion. Additionally, massage can help break down scar tissue and adhesions, accelerating the recovery process.

I am trained to provide therapeutic massages that prioritize your comfort and well-being. While you may experience some discomfort or tenderness during specific techniques targeting affected areas, it is important to communicate your pain threshold to your therapist. They will adjust the pressure and techniques accordingly to ensure a comfortable and effective treatment experience.

The number of sessions required to see results can vary depending on the individual and the extent of the meniscus tear. In most cases, a series of regular massage therapy sessions is recommended to achieve significant improvement. Your therapist will create a personalized treatment plan for you, outlining the recommended frequency and duration of sessions to maximize your healing potential.

Massage therapy cannot replace surgical intervention for severe meniscus tears. However, in some cases, massage therapy can be a complementary approach to surgical treatment or a non-invasive alternative for minor tears. Our therapists will work closely with you and your healthcare provider to determine the most suitable course of action, whether it involves massage therapy alone or in conjunction with other treatments.

The recovery time for a meniscus tear can vary depending on several factors, including the severity of the tear, your overall health, and adherence to recommended treatment plans. Massage therapy can help expedite the healing process by reducing pain, inflammation, and promoting meniscal repair. However, it is essential to follow the recommended treatment regimen and incorporate proper rest, rehabilitation exercises, and lifestyle modifications to optimize your recovery.

Massage therapy can often be complemented by other treatments like physiotherapy for meniscus tear. It is essential to communicate with your physiotherapist and inform your massage therapist about any other treatments or therapies you are undergoing. This allows them to coordinate efforts, ensure compatibility, and provide you with the most comprehensive care possible.

Remember, every individual and torn meniscus case is unique. It is important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional or your massage therapist to receive personalized rehabilitation advice and guidance regarding your specific condition and treatment plan.

NKT and P-DTR are two advanced treatments that focus on locating the root cause of your ankle sprain and correcting the functional imbalances within the body. Using precise manual muscle tests, an experienced therapist can quickly find the root of many dysfunctions that is causing your ankle pain or discomfort and treating it. I work with people from all walks of life! From the weekend warrior to the seasoned athlete, I will always find the most effective way for everyone to find success in meeting their goals.

Yes, meniscus tear massage therapy can play a crucial role in preventing future injuries. By addressing muscular imbalances, promoting flexibility, and improving overall knee stability, massage therapy contributes to reducing the risk of the twist re-injury. Additionally, our therapists may provide guidance on stretching exercises, strengthening techniques, and lifestyle modifications to support long-term injury prevention and maintenance of optimal knee health.

The RICE method is a commonly recommended approach for initial management of meniscus. It involves resting the affected area of the knee joint, applying ice to reduce swelling and pain, using compression (with a bandage or brace) to provide support, and elevating the knee joint above heart level to reduce inflammation within the cartilage. In addition to these, manual therapy (RMT) has been shown to be beneficial during the recovery process.
